Why do parents seek an assessment?

Some families simply come to the Centre to gain a better understanding of their child. Others wish to gain advice and independent reports to help them with difficult decisions regarding their child’s educational provisions and to try to secure the school placement that they believe is best for their child. Questions that families may have include:

  • Does my child or young person who is deaf have additional difficulties?
  • How well does my child hear in background noise?
  • What are my child’s current skills and special educational needs?
  • What type of educational placement would best suit my child?
  • Are my child’s audiological needs being met?
  • Is my child receiving the appropriate level of speech and language therapy?
  • What are the next steps for my child’s development?
